Prepared by Chef Shohei Nakajima, a rich Japanese menu awaits food aficionados at Baan Tao – the in-house pan asian restaurant at Hyatt Pune at their Japanese Food Festival held from 19th  to 26th March.The festival is featuring the best specialties from Japanese cuisine like different types of sushi, Kushiyaki(Japanese style skewers), noodles, sashimi (thinly sliced raw meat) and “miso soup,” which are sure to satisfy your taste buds, offering an unforgettable dining experience. Here is a preview to what is on offer here this week

Chef Shohei Nakajima has a crafted a rich selection of sushi, that not only is visually appealing but also a lot of care has been taken to source the right ingredients for the success of this Food Festival. The delights featured on Chef Kakajima include

1.    The Classic Nigri – The range of nigiri sushi (hand-pressed sushi) here consists of delightful mouthfuls packed with exotic ingredients. You will be able to sample salmon, tuna, yellow tail variants on top of vinegared white rice

 

2.    Sashimi – Fresh Sashimi slices, seared scallop sashimi, and raw sweet king prawns, simply served on shredded radish with a slice of fresh fish tucked on top. Well it is not as simple as it sounds, the cuts of seafood is top class

3.    Smoked salmon Roll – This is beyond perfect with a heady combination of Scottish salmon, cream cheese and cucumber

4.    California Maki: The difference between California Rolls and Maki-sushi is the way it’s rolled. The California Roll has the sushi rice on the outside with the nori on the inside You can savor Crab stick, cucumber, avocado, tobiko variants at Baan Tao

Of the non-vegetarian dishes, the Karaage, or deep-fried chicken in Kuzu starch, is a fun bite with Japanese mayonnaise . But the pick of the lot is Grilled tender chicken breast with teriyaki sauce & served with grilled vegetables that included eggplant, asparagus and zucchini

The Kushiyaki is a formal term that encompasses both poultry and non-poultry items, skewered and grilled. Both yakitori and kushiyaki are used interchangeably in Japanese society to refer to skewered meat collectively. You will find the prawn, chicken and leek, assorted vegetables and eggplant variants here

The Cotton Tofu in Mushroom Sauce : The tofu squares are first rolled in seasoned flour, dipped in egg mixture then fried until crispy and browned and then served with a savory mushroom garlic sauce along with broccoli, pok choy, baby corn and mushrooms. This is a vegetarians haven

For Desserts is the MatchTea cheesecake that is served with coconut ice cream.  This baked cheesecake it flavoured with an aromatic tea “Matcha tea” also know as the Japanese Green Tea The subtle hints of the green tea adds another depth to the already delicious cheesecake to provide a perfect ending.
