Effingut BeerWho doesn’t want to be a part of the Oktoberfest, the beer guzzling legacy that goes back all the way to Munich, Germany. So if you can’t jet set to Germany you can surely have an epic time celebrating Oktoberfest in full  spirit at Effingut Brewerkz. For the fest the craft brewery offers unlimited food and beer during 8pm to 11pm at Rs. 1350 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays and Rs.1700 on Wednesday. Friday &Sundays .

A beer tasting session with Manu Gulati, the man behind made me fall in love all over again with craft beers. The tasting started with the fruit based ciders and then moved on to the complex bitters. During the Oktoberfest Effingut is serving close to 10 variety of beers along with a special German menu for the Oktoberfest.

The ciders, are a perfect introduction to people to don’t like the bitter taste of beer all thanks to  its fruity flavor, we had the apple and the strawberry cider with mild flavors and the prominent fruity aftertaste.  The strawberry cider also gives you a tartness at the end of your swallow. A perfect refreshing brunch drink I must say…

This was followed by a Mead which had a unique combination of peach ginger along with fermented honey. This one was great but fruity flavors are not my style

Then came  the omnipresent Hefeweizen, True Bavarian style beer that astonishingly smelt of banana and cloves that comes only as a result of the yeast byproduct.

Followed next the Belgian wheat with Tamarind yeast that gives you more funky flavors of citrus, lime zest alongwith the sourness of imli (tamarind)

Berliner Weisse also, called the ‘Champagne of the north Germany’ because of its sparkle and fizz that is a result of spontaneous fermentation The lactic acid bacteria create the sour taste in this beer.

Coffee Porter, is a American Porter style beer was my favourite amongst all where the rich aroma of dark roasted coffee beans and is skewed towards slightly bitter.

The other bitters on the menu were the Amber Ale, an English style beer and Milk stout, an irish style, lactose infused with ashy and smoky flavors due to the nitrogenation and it tastes like milk shake.

A unique German food menu smugly pairs up well with the beer fare the menu consists of everything from the oh so crunchy Chicken Schnitzel to Brotschnitten, which are the German variant of the crostini in two variants. The vegetarians can surely enjoy the Pilzpastete – Creamy mushrooms with honey mustard taste, the veg Doner that are filled with cottagebcheese schnitzel german coleslaw and a generous helping of sour cream and the Kohlrouladen that are cabbage rolls filled with pilaf and cheese.

But my pick of the day was the the Szegediner a robust German style traditional pork stew that is slow-cooked in red wine served along with melt in the mouth potato dumplings and sauerkraut.

The lone dessert is the Black Forest Trifle in which the chocolate cake is soaked with Effingut’s Strawberry Cider wll well it was a tad too sweet for my taste.

A special mention for Manu Misra, for taking us on an informative tour of the brewery and the amazing conversations

So, despite the consequences of whether you’re a chugger or a tippler, you should come and be a part of the fest it’s totally tripping. Get your friends along…beers tastes amazing with more the merrier

Ah well well I do take my beers seriously….
