In one of the cozy corners of Kalyani Nagar in Pune, this place is perfect for a light lunch, afternoon tea and great breakfasts. Armed with a comprehensive all day menu – The Flour Works is many entities in one – It is a bakery, patisserie and a café all rolled into one. Check out my lunch experience here
Lunch started with the beautiful and the no fuss Warm Caramelized Goat Cheese salad It has warm caramelized goat cheese, with poached figs over rucola, topped with a honey balsamic glaze that make sure that you get to experience a myriad of textures and flavors. Soft, warm, crunchy, with the sweetness of the fig and the acidity of the vinegar all come together in one plate.
On the other hand the salad plate with Balsamic chicken on a bed of rucola with picked red onions, tomatoes and feta cheese is perfect for the non vegetarians. It is noteworthy that both the salads at The Flour Works are very light on the stomach owing that to simple and not over the top creamy dressings.
Grilled Polenta with Mushroom and Green Pea Ragout – This was my favorite dish here. Polenta, mushrooms and green pea sound very unassuming but the contrast between the golden, crispy exterior and the creamy, buttery interior is what makes grilled polenta so heavenly and when you pair it with a hearty mushroom and green pea ragout, the entire combination becomes a hero. A plate of food, that warmed me down to my toes after an exhilarating day at work. Perfect for the current weather in Pune.
Delicious, Delicious is the word for the Goat Cheese Ravioli at The Flour Works The ravioli filling, made with goat cheese, chopped spinach, and nutmeg plays an important role in this dish, with each ingredient contributing to the overall flavor – the goat cheese provides richness and creaminess and nutmeg contributes sweetness with a hint of savory. The brown butter and sage sauce lightly coats ravioli creating the perfect creaminess to complement the pasta.
The Pan Fried Red Snapper with a peppery cauliflower mash with the capers and parsley sauce is sure to hit the right tones with the fish lovers
I could eat this again and again…The Pork Steak stuffed with rich flavors of prosciutto, the creaminess of the goat cheese and the sweetness of the raisins is a must try here. And the sautéed spinach and red wine sauce work with the pork harmoniously.
In the desserts, my top pick would be the Dark Chocolate Mousse with an orange caramel filling and creamy orange sauce. Bang on textures and I really cannot say no to the combination of Dark Chocolate and Orange
The Dark Chocolate Tart and Hazelnut Praline with a chocolate spoon equally impress here.
