A Splash of Cream on Kebabs, is this Pune eatery’s Signature Stroke | Bellydriven
Juicy chunks of meat, lathered in red and green masalas, skewered and ready to be grilled is the first thing that you would notice at Shahnoor’z. This buzzing roadside eatery has grown over the years from a delivery kitchen and invites light-wallet patrons with intoxicating aromas flooding the air. And well, all their kebabs from the makrana to the traditional tandoori are served with a generous helping of cream on top.
From student-friendly budget quick meals to late-night munchies or a quick takeaway Shahnoorz caters to all. Here is my take on Shahnoor’z
With boneless chicken, marinated with achari masala and yoghurt, The Murg Achari Tikka, was tender and smoky but the salt level in this dish was appalling.
On the other hand, with rustic and delicious chunks of meat cooked in herbs and yogurt marinade – The Murg Pahadi Tikka had an enticing flavor from the green chillies and mint.
The chicken drumsticks came into play next. Perfectly smoked, tandoored and dusted with chaat masala and with that splash of cream – The Makarana Kebabs at Shahnoor’z are a meat lover’s delight. The meat melts in the mouth and, overall, it is delicious.
Shahnoor’z also has a secret masala that coats their chicken wings…could catch the undertones of cardamom and saffron.
A dish not to miss is the Shahnoorz Special Kebab with intriguing flavors. Chicken stuffed with perfectly cooked chicken keema or mince in wonderful Indian spices, cheese and cashews. An all in one kebab with myriad textures
The Irani Tandoori Chicken served with a humongous amount of grated cheese is a similar version of the afghani chicken. It is also topped with nuts here.
Shahnoor’z is famous for their rolls. I liked the flavors of the Nizami Shawarma Roll with the indianised shawarma…would have loved it if the roll hadn’t been slathered with too much mayonnaise like sauce
In the mains, things to try are the Mutton Kabsa Rice – similar to that of Indian biryani; cooked with rice and meat. The spices used in kabsa are largely responsible for its taste — black pepper, cloves, cardamom, saffron, cinnamon, bay leaves, nutmeg and of, course, the dry lime give the dish its flavor
Another one is Shahnoorz’s version of the Murg Mussallam made in their own style with chicken and egg fry.
There was kadhai paneer too but when you are a hard core carnivore, you tend to give paneer a miss.
In desserts Shahnoorz serves the Malai Phirni (yum, well set, perfectly balanced) and the Gajar ka Halwa (I thought in need more time on the flame..bhunoing is the key here that they missed)
